NOS for Reiki Consultation

Although the DPN Team are not running any events at present, we are still keeping a finger on the pulse of what is happening in the world of Reiki public practice.

Of particular note at present is the consultation on the NOS (National Occupational Standards) for Reiki which is going on now until 20th February.

Last summer the organisation that helps complementary therapies develop their NOS (Skills For Health) was asked to look at creating a generic NOS that would cover the skills common to practitioners of a variety of complementary therapies, including aromatherapy, homeopathy, nutrition and Reiki.  The idea behind this is that there are basic skills we all share when dealing with clients/patients  and that there is therefore a lot of repetition between the NOS for each one.  It was seen that these are also transferable skills, so by bringing them into one document it could mean people do not have to repeat training unnecessarily.

Over a number of (very interesting!) meetingsthis 'generic' NOS for certain complementary therapies was developed, based on the pre-existing NOS of the different therapies/disciplines.

In addition to this, each therapy/discipline is to have its own section, dealing with the aspects that are not common.

DPN team members Kate Jones and Milly Cain both participated in a meeting in December to finalise the draft of the Reiki specific part of the NOS.

These documents have been out for consultation, which means that feedback about them was sought from Reiki practitioners in public practice.

The consutlation is now closed and revisions to these documents have been made, but you can look at the 'work in progress' documents that were consulted on by clicking on the links below:
