Here the current team introduce themselves.
Annette Bunning | I joined the DPN team in Nov 2007 after attending four Annual Gatherings and various PSP events. I have almost from the start regarded myself as a practitioner; I loved what the team were doing, and wanted to contribute. Having been self employed since 1990, I have a range of experiences to draw from: I ran an outdoor business that offered team building to schools and businesses, and I now offer various complementary therapies and accommodation. In my previous life I have worked: in education: in the voluntary sector: working with people with learning difficulties and: counselling. Two themes throughout have been: working with others to make the best of themselves: creating new initiatives within organisations. I have facilitation skills and as an all-rounder, I can turn my hand to a variety of tasks. Holding a clear vision or seeing the bigger picture is one of my talents. I offer my willingness to get stuck in, whilst recognising that listening to what you, the members, want of the team, is paramount. I trust in Reiki that I am the right person in the right place at the right time! I have been described as 'outgoing and fun loving with a serious side'. I am usually full of energy and enthusiasm, so people do not always 'get' the quieter side that will be found listening attentively to the troubles of others. I live in the most amazing beautiful peaceful place in North Wales. My late husband and I built the property with a wish to share this spiritual place with like minded people. At times it has been hard work holding onto this dream, and when John Cass joined me in 2007 the Retreat became our home and joint offering. I was initiated into Reiki in Jan 2003 by Liz Lyden and feel very grateful that Liz encouraged me to get involved with the Reiki Community through attending the Associations activities and volunteering in a small way. Having had a series of intense personal experiences and changes in a very short period I am now working with Phyllis Lei Furumoto towards mastery. |
Milly Cain | Once upon a time in the 1950s, I was growing up on Merseyside, one of seven children. I was number 6. During our growing up, we were sung to and told stories by the elders in the family. We continue to carry on the tradition of songs and stories together as we travel through life and pass them on to our children. I share this with you because it was my Reiki journey that brought me to a deep appreciation of my family line. Whenever I reflect on Oral tradition, one of the Aspects of Usui Shiki Ryoho, the form of Reiki I am initiated into, I am reminded of my childhood and its songs and stories! I have 4 children, 3 grand-children, and a wonderful husband.I am deeply appreciative of each of them and how they have supported me, not only on my Reiki journey, but throughout my life with them. I met Loretta Venus in 1989 and went on to do First and Second Degree with her. I was working in an Osteopathic Clinic as a remedial massage therapist and in 1992 I began to offer Reiki treatments.I began organising Reiki classes and events and during these years I felt myself growing 'closer' to Reiki. I knew that I wanted to teach Reiki. 13 years after taking 1st degree, I was initiated as a Master by Phyllis Lei Furumoto in 2003. I have served on the Reiki Association Council and during that time went with a Council colleague, Sue McCarter, to check out this big house nr Brecon called Buckland Hall! The place that has become our Reiki holiday home! I have been on the Practitioner Support Programme/ Deepening Practice Network team, since its beginnings. I offer Reiki treatments at a Natural Health Centre and at a local Hospice. I also hold Reiki classes at the Hospice. Reiki classes, are a special time. I feel privileged to have this as my 'work'. My other passions are the outdoors, music, and simplicity! |
Julia Hathaway | I usually resist describing myself, lest I am tied down to any one part of my personality (!), however I am an essentially serious person with a quirky sense of humour, and a quick mind, and I feel that when I 'found' Reiki (or maybe it found me) I had found my home at last. I have lived in North Nottinghamshire for 27 years (which is about 26 more than I originally intended to) and in this time I have learned to love the huge skies, the forests, and the many beautiful open spaces within which I live; I really appreciate this both 'real' space, fields, woodland, landscape and also time to think, meditate, and practice Reiki. I originate, though, in Oxford, and retain much affection for the place of my roots. I have four children (three of whom have Reiki!), and they, and my grandchildren, all live fairly close by. I have been practising Reiki since 1995, initially incorporating it into my massage practice, and, since 1999, as part of my Reiki and psychotherapy practice. Before this I worked in administration, as a community development officer, and as a homelessness support worker. I have been a member of the Reiki Association since 1996, and I was on the Council from 2001 2003. Since 2004 I have been part of the PSP (now DPN) team, and I enjoy the freshness and the inspiration of this involvement. Most of all, I enjoy the constant discipline of living with Reiki: the support it gives me, whilst continuing to challenge me. Life is good, and as I write this, the sun is shining on me. I feel blessed. |
Kate Jones ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Reiki came into my life in 1989 after being so impressed by the way Reiki had helped me, I was drawn to offer similar comfort to others. So I took my First Degree with Martha Sylvester and have been passionate about Reiki ever since. I soon began offering Reiki to the public: a great learning experience! One of the things I discovered was how unprepared I was for this step. I joined The Reiki Association at its inaugural meeting in August 1991 and was initiated as a Master later that year. The following year the Association was looking for a new Administrator and I put my hand up for the job! That was the beginning of an intense 12 years of involvement with the Association, which included participation in discussions about what qualities a public practitioner needs to have, for the establishment of the Referral List. I have a passion for seeing training and support for Reiki practitioners that will help them move into public practice and sustain a living doing what they love, i.e. helping people with Reiki. I represented The Reiki Association in discussions to develop National Occupational Standards for Reiki which led to me representing TRA and now the Reiki Alliance on the Reiki Regulatory Working Group. I also organised a conference on public practice of Reiki in 2003, out of which the PSP was born. I left my job with TRA in 2004 to concentrate on my own Reiki practice and it was at this point that I joined the Practitioner Support Programme, now the Deepening Practice Network. I currently earn my living giving Reiki treatments and teaching Reiki. I live on a hill in Shropshire with my wonderful husband Alec, a dog and a cat (until a visit from a fox last year I also had hens and hope to have some more soon!). I also enjoy singing, taking photos, my garden and travelling. I have an alter-ego as Bonzo-Mary the Clown, a perfect antidote to all the serious stuff! I am deeply grateful for all the gifts Reiki has brought to my life. |
